The Dunton Family—

The Dunton Motors facility that opened on Route 66 in Kingman, Arizona in 1946

The Dunton family has an association with Route 66 that spans more than ninety years. N.R. Dunton operated a garage in Goldroad, Arizona. This facility received mention in the now classic A Guide to Highway 66 published by Jack Rittenhouse in 1946 as a towing service over Sitgreaves Pass was offered. Dunton also provided school bus service to Kingman from Goldroad, and trash service in that mining camp, built Cool Springs Camp on the east side of the Black Mountains on the pre 1952 alignment of Route 66, and established Dunton Motors in Kingman. Roy Dunton, his nephew and the “D” in Mr. D’z Route 66 Diner, worked at the garage from 1938 to 1942, and owned Dunton Motors for more than forty years.
Full Body Garage —
Dunton Motors met the needs of locals and Route 66 travelers alike for more than forty years. Established in 1946 as a full line Ford dealership, it became an Edsel sales and service center in 1958, and latter a GM dealership. Today the Dunton family owned facility builds and sells dream machines – vintage cars, hot rods, classic cars and trucks, and custom cars.
